April Day Trip

We have been working on the details and costs for the April 28-29 trip. Our goal was to do something that would been entertaining and informative, economical and educational with a chance to earn a merit badge. We have run into some issues as we drilled down on the details, the costs of two vans for two days was approaching $800, food and hotel expenses, and finally the New England Air Museum can not handle 24 scouts at once for the Aviation MB.
So to keep an entertaining, economical and educational we have shifted gears for the trip.
We will now rent two vans for one day and make a (long) day trip into town to hike the Free
dom Trail.
We will depart West at 9 SHARP on Saturday, April 28th and start the trail at the USS Constitution, working our way back to down town. We will end the day at a rock climbing center in Dedham and return to West for pick up at 11PM.

The scouts will have the opportunity to earn the Freedom Trail patch form BSA (and adventure badge, not a merit badge) and if the boys participate, they will complete about 75% of their Citizenship in the Nation (Eagle) merit badge. Scouts that started their CIN MB at summer camp, this will complete the MB for them.
Boys 13 and older will be able to earn the Climbing MB at the climbing center, those under 13 will climb and learn climbing knots completing some rank requirements.
The cost for the day will be about $66 depending on what we do for food- If we brown bag lunch, the cost will go down.
We have had to commit to the rock climbing and van rentals with down payments, we will need $20 deposit from each scout going on the trip to secure their seat. Please bring it to this coming Wednesday night’s Troop meeting.
Parents will also need to sign the waiver at  http://www.rockspotclimbing.com/pop_meritbadge.html before the trip.
Boys can study the new knots they will be working on at:
